While living in a state which prides itself on being in the forefront when it comes to vehicle emissions, California, I was not surprised to receive my vehicle registration notice which related that I must take my vehicle in for a smog inspection.

Using the MIG welder, tack weld the exhaust tubing that is between the two cut sections of the exhaust. The tack weld is a small and fast kind of welding that secures two pieces together. This however is temporary. You have to make sure that the alignment is straight and that there are no gaps between the tubing before a permanent welding could be done.

It will have some effect on power output, but not a lot. Its exact effect on HP is not clear, but it probably costs a few hp at the most, maybe 5-15hp at BPU(TM) power levels.

The next step is to find the catalytic converter s on the exhaust system. This is an oval shape part of the system and it swells out. Depending on the year, it would have had some louvers or vents. Using a reciprocating saw with metal blades, cut your catalytic converter recycler from the exhaust. Make sure that it is a perfect cut that will produce a straight line.

There really is no BEST. Although the A’PEXi AVC-R is a nice unit, it provides much more control over boost than other EBCs, but it is also more complex to install, and tune. The new Blitz unit is also nice. Most of the large manufacturers make decent units. Just avoid fuzzy-logic equipped models if you still have the sequential stock turbos, they will become “confused” by the unnatural behavior of the sequential system.

All modern fuel injected vehicles use an oxygen sensor to measure how much oxygen is present in the exhaust. From this the computer can add or subtract fuel to obtain the correct mixture for maximum fuel economy. This little sensor can also be the cause of a persistent check engine light. While it is small it can cause a few problems with the overall performance of the vehicle.

We have already bought a number of such kits and fixed them. I have also done quite a good amount of research and read their reviews on Net and also looking for the people who have already got them installed and seeking their opinion which is good and which is not.
