Inspiration is what keeps people going. You will need it to get out of bed today. When you do leave your house, you will need it as you walk around the streets. You will need it while walking around the streets as you will meet a lot of people who lack it. You will see hopelessness in all its forms in the streets. At the office, you will need it as you work through file after file. As you attack one pile of work after another. Inspiration is what keeps your life going. All day, every day.
I’ve contributed money anonymously to many people, many times in my life. And I am the recipient of anonymous gifts from time to time. But this sort of thing – having a stranger pay for my breakfast – has never happened to me. It was an excellent occasion, that day, on which to experience that sort of kindness for the first time. It was a confirmation. It was an Follow me. And I believe it came from God.
Inspiration also helps an individual utilize his potential to the maximum. When you truly believe in yourself, you are in a state where you are one with the work you are doing. You are not bothered by distractions. You wish to give it your all.
In the times of our ancestors, before the common matchstick was invented and developed, preserving fire was of utmost importance. What good would it do to have a fireplace full of wood all neatly stacked, and have not so much as a spark of fire to get it going?
So remember. You won’t always be motivated to do the things that are important to you. Don’t wait for motivation to come along. Make a decision to do it anyway and start creating momentum. Soon you will find that the momentum will continue all on its own and it might even pull you along with it.
The more compelling the reason, the more it aligns with what is important to you, the more you will be ‘pulled’ towards it. You need to imagine and have a vivid picture in your mind (as well of external representations such as a vision board) of what this destination looks like. If you have no idea what your goal or your destination looks like and how you will feel when you get there, then why would you want to go there in the first place? You generally can’t be motivated for motivation sake. You need a compelling reason and a clear purpose; somewhere to direct your attention and focus your energy.
As simple as it may sound, many people tend to get them mixed up. They fail to understand the differences between the both and they often think they are using towards motivation when they are actually using away motivations and vice verse.
Other times the motivation will be spot on, you will realize “Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for to drive me”. Then use it. If motivation makes you act, use it. If it doesn’t, discard it. Sometimes it’s not easy. Motivation makes you feel good. Breaking that state of motivation makes you feel the cold of the wind and look at dirt of the ground once again. But life’s not fluffy or warm all the time. Many times, when you have to take action, you have to get down and dirty. So do it. Harness that skill and you will control your emotions, your capability for action, and achieve peak performance almost immediately.
