Island News is published in part by Island Press, a division Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue was dated November. 24, 1931. The title was changed to the Stroller’s Weekly. It was later renamed the Island News Professional and Douglas Island News. H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens edited the issue. The name was not last used until March 3, 1933, when the final edition was published.

Island News Professional brought several new writers to Alaska to write about the business environment in the islands and surrounding areas. The pages also included news and travel columns, a new sports section, a mining report, an article about the Kenai Fjords National Park, an island weather report, a fresh feature story on the Kenai Wildlife Park, a cultural calendar and a wildlife report and a mining report. A local obituary was another important addition. The obituaries were alphabetically listed under each city in this issue. This made it easier for readers to locate the correct information.
